Lay Dominicans of Miami
The San Juan Macias Lay Dominicans are a local group in Miami, Florida, belonging to the wider Dominican Family and inspired by the charism of St. Dominic. We gather for prayer, formation, fraternity, study, and apostolic life as lay members of the Order of Preachers.
Our group exists to help Catholic men and women live a deeper life of discipleship in the Dominican tradition. We bring our ordinary lives of family, work, ministry, friendship, service, and daily responsibilities into a shared vocation of seeking truth and preaching Christ by the witness of our lives.
Our Patron: St. Juan Macias
Our group is named after St. Juan Macias, a Dominican brother known for his humility, prayer, simplicity, and love for the poor. Born in Spain in 1585, Juan Macias eventually traveled to the Americas and entered the Dominican community in Lima, Peru. There he served as a lay brother, porter, man of prayer, and friend of the poor.
St. Juan Macias reminds us that holiness does not require fame, power, or recognition. His life teaches us that humble service, deep prayer, obedience, mercy, and love for the forgotten can become a powerful form of preaching. As a chapter, we look to him as a model of simplicity, faithfulness, and charity.

We meet at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Miami.

What We Do
meeting butOur monthly group meetings and ongoing fraternity life help us grow in the Dominican way of life. We gather for common prayer, formation, study, community, discernment, apostolic service, celebration of Dominican feast days, and support for those exploring the Lay Dominican vocation.
Our time together normally includes prayer, a formation or study topic, discussion, fellowship, chapter business, and discernment. The purpose is not simply to attend a meeting, but to be formed as disciples and sent as witnesses of Christ in the world.
Our Group Culture
We desire to be a family marked by truth and charity, contemplation and action, humility and courage. We want our fraternity to be faithful, prayerful, thoughtful, welcoming, and missionary. We seek to build a community where members can grow in holiness, ask serious questions, study the faith, pray together, serve others, and become better witnesses of Christ.
We are a real community of lay Catholics in Miami. We are not perfect, but we are committed to growing together in faith, truth, mercy, and love. Our fraternity helps us remember that Dominican life is not only something we admire. It is something we live together.
